9 Weird Habits That Make Leaders PoWerFul AF
Oct 14, 2021I believe that you are meant for MORE.
You are here to access your full power. To change the world like the leader you were born to be. I also believe that you're meant to feel good doing it.
It's why I'm obsessed with teaching trauma-informed mental wellness that meets sensitive leaders in their full humanity and empowers them to get out of their heads.
It's also why it's so important to me that they have tangible tools and practices that they learn to implement in their lives - not just motivational moments.
I was reflecting on the incredible stories of some of my clients recently, and it got me thinking about the habits they've developed through our work.
Some of these are a lil weird. They're things that 5 years ago I would have shrugged off and dismissed.
But the crazy thing? They WORK.
They're backed by neuroscience, coaching psychology, and behavior change theory.
It's these habits that take highly sensitive and ambitious women from swelling in their heads, battling daily anxiety, perfectionism, sefl-doubt, and imposter syndrome to showing up consistently, feeling grounded, calm, confident, and READY to shine their light in the world.
The 9 Weird Habits my Clients Develop:
- Get Hypnotized
- To embrace all of you who already are we have to shed the beliefs, conditioning, and old stories that no longer serve. Hypnosis is a powerful tool that allows us to speak directly to the subconscious - cleaning out and reprogramming with the exact identity of the leader you're ready to embody.
- Shake it Out
- Overworked, stressed, and traumatized nervous systems make even the smallest decisions or action steps feel like a STRUGGLE. One super quick way to regulate your nervous system? SHAKE your body. Seriously, from head to toe, like a lil wild thing, shake it out and notice the difference.
- Talk to Yourself Like a Small Child
- Start all self-talk with nicknames such as 'sweetie', 'honey', and 'baby.' It sounds silly at first, but it's hard to say 'Sweetie, you freaking idiot!' as a whole sentence. When we change how we're addressing ourselves, self-talk starts to become, 'Ah honey, that was hard. What support do we need'?
- Punch Your Pillows
- Your 'negative' feelings aren't bad, they need a voice. They want to be seen and heard. They also need an outlet to move through our systems (physically and energetically). The next time you're feeling stressed, angry, or straight up pissed off - grab a pillow and wail on it, Donkey Kong style. Let it out. Notice how you feel afterward.
- Diagram Your Thoughts
- Your feelings are valid, and they're not always true. Learning to break down your thoughts and understanding how they influence your feelings, actions, and end results is powerful daily mindset work. We can't always control the thoughts our brain offers, but we CAN control how we respond to them.
- Talk to Your Body
- Your body is sending you messages all day long about what is and isn't right for you. What you should eat for lunch, whether or not to take that new job, and what you really want to do this weekend. The key is learning to LISTEN to her, talk to her, and honor the messages that she's sending.
- Sync Your Habits with The Moon
- Energetically and physically, women were never designed to operate on a 24hr, 7 days/week clock. Meaning, it's not your fault that your energy, motivation, sleep needs, and food cravings never seem to be consistent day after day. Aligning your sleep, food, movement, and work habits with the moon or your menstrual cycle opens up an entirely new level of freedom, joy, and power.
- Use 'I' Statements
- Yes, you can set clear boundaries, get your needs met, and voice your opinion without feeling too much, too pushy, or like a bitch. Using I statements such as "I think...' 'I feel....' and 'I need' allows you to be assertive while also being kind. Your voice, opinion, and needs matter - it's up to you to communicate them.
- Schedule Your Flow
- You know those activities that leave you feeling on top of the world? the projects you get into and lose all track of time? We access our flow state through a variety of activities, so plan yours throughout the course of the week, month, and even the year. For example, get to a few concerts every couple of months, a vacation or conference twice a year, do yoga weekly, and microdose or meditate daily.
