Is Your Nervous Systems Dysregulated?
Jan 06, 2022It can feel REAL hard to 'listen to your body's, 'trust yourself' and 'just do you' when your nervous system has been hijacked.
Here are some signs that your nervous system may be dysregulated...
- You race from one thing to the next, constantly trying to get more done. Your brain never seems to shut off
- You're constantly reaching for your phone, social media, TV, weed, or alcohol in your downtime.
- It takes days or even weeks to recover from mildly-moderately stressful events
- You're easily distracted, even on projects you care about
- You feel angry, anxious, or on edge most of the time, even when nothing is "obviously" wrong
- You no longer find joy in things you used to. Life feels heavy and overwhelming
- You experience chronic digestive problems, fatigue, pain, or symptoms inflammation
- Your reaction is disproportionate to events that happen - e.g., small events "set you off" or stress you out
- You have a deep desire to LIVE full out. But you spend most of your free time either overworking or scrolling your phone for hours
If you see yourself on any of the above points, know that there is NOTHING wrong with or broken about you.
A flexible, resilient nervous system allows us to react appropriately to life's stressors and then come back to a state of calm and groundedness.
Chronic stress, trauma, illness, and ingrained limiting beliefs from living in our modern-day world can truncate that flexibility and can result in rigid nervous systems that get stuck in a stress/trauma response.
This isn't your fault and it doesn't imply that your body is broken in any way.
It CAN serve as a gentle way to understand why your system reacts the way it does, especially when that reaction feels inappropriate.
It also offers insight into shifting those behaviors towards ones that feel more calm, grounded, and authentically you.
